Aromas:

Palate:
The palate is rich and full-bodied with creamy spicy fruit flavours and a lingering finish. A trace of natural sweetness perfectly balances the natural acidity and fruit.

Food and Wine Match:

A rich Gewurztraminer of this stature will match perfectly to boldly flavoured pork or poultry dishes, spiced ethnic dishes or mild blue cheeses.

Cellaring:

The wine is lovely to drink now but will benefit from further bottle development by careful cellaring for up to five years.

Harvest Notes:

Gewurztraminer, one of our signature grape varieties grown in Gisborne has excelled and produced a wine of intense aroma, flavour and finesse. Patutahi is home to more than one third of Gisborne's vines and produces richly flavoured, award winning wines. The Kaiti clay soils are predominantly a 50/50 combination of silt and clay loam. Patutahi receives 30% less rainfall during the growing season. Gisborne was finally blessed with an extraordinary vintage – 2013 was the best vintage since 1998 (and was better than it too!). The lovely dry warm weather produced fruit in absolutely perfect balance, with the sugar and acid content of the grapes in perfect harmony.

Fermentation Notes:

Fermented with aromatic yeasts in stainless steel to retain the aromatics of this variety as well as in large oak cuves to add texture and complexity. This aromatic Gewurztraminer has been further enhanced by lees ageing, resulting in a wine with lovely richness body and length.
