Harvest Notes:

Lying alongside the Taylor River shingle fan and leading south into the Wither Hills, lies the ‘Taylor River’ Vineyard. The mixed soils of loam, silt, clays and some river gravels of this site along with the moderating easterly allows the Pommard & Dijon clones to express the bold and structured side of Pinot Noir. In 2011, we witnessed great ripening throughout the season with the main difference versus recent years being the amount of rainfall in spring . As a result, Marlborough had some of the best looking canopies and healthy vines since 2003. This allowed the vines to work at their own speed and when we had the predicted ‘warmer than usual’ summer, the vines thrived and the fruit settled in for a great run into harvest. The slightly warmer nights and days have allowed the Pinot Noir to obtain ripe seed and skin tannin in balance with bright acidity and concentrated fruit flavors. All grapes were quality checked through our Vistalys optical berry sorter. It has been very rewarding to watch the different batches from our Pinot Noir vineyards develop over time.
